The year is 2154. Humans are mining a precious mineral called unobtanium on Pandora, a lush moon of a gas giant in the Alpha Centauri star system. The expansion of the mining colony threatens the continued existence of a local tribe of Na'vi—a humanoid species indigenous to Pandora.
Pandora is inhabited by these Na'vi, a ten-foot-tall blue-skinned species of sapient humanoids, who live in harmony with nature, worshiping a mother goddess called Eywa. To facilitate relations with the Na'vi and research of Pandora's biosphere, scientists grow Na'vi-human hybrid bodies called avatars that are operated via mental link by genetically matching humans.

The year is 2250.
After the Time of Great Sorrows, a new era has arisen; the Time of Tranquility. With the Omaticaya's spearation from the other Na'vi clans of Pandora, peace was at hand. The few humans who were allowed to stay cleaned up the abandoned RDA base, destroying unused facilities and buildings that were taking up space. The humans now live in a small village-like area where their buildings once were, and they were trained by the People to defend themselves from the forests' predators. The Na'vi are allowing the humans to continue studying their environment, and shuttles to and from Earth are allowed but monitored. No humans are allowed to live on Pandora unless they are accepted by both the Omaticaya and the humans already living there.
Today, everything seems well. Jake and Netyri are long gone, but their children have continued to take the leading roles in their tribe. There is even a group of dreamwalkers that the Na'vi have allowed into their tribe, teaching them the ways of their people as Netyri trained Jake Sully long ago. The dreamwalkers are mostly scientists who need their avatar bodies to go for days in the extensive forests of Pandora without doing harm to their real bodies. The People are fine with this, as long as the dreamwalkers do not tamper with their ecosystem. Some dreamwalkers who have shown excellence in controlling their avatar bodies have been allowed to learn the ways of the warrior, with some being written down in history as the next to be transferred from their human state to their Na'vi selves. It is a rare occurrence, but it has happened before, with the leaders' approval.
But not everything is at is seems on Pandora. Not every inch of the planet is watched by the Na'vi, and on the southern end of the planet, construction is happening. About one week's travel from the Omaticaya clan rests an Earth-based compound in which humans are living. They are there for one reason only; to seek the rare unobtanium and whatever else lies in their path. They wish to eradicate the Na'vi and make them slaves whilst building colonies on the rugged planet. No one knows of the compound's existence but the ones who work there. The humans there are corrupt and evil; using their money and power on Earth to gain enough staff and support to run a base on Pandora. They have been sending out scouts to find sources of unobtanium, and have hired the best trackers of their race to locate the nearby Na'vi clans. With this information, they wish to cause an all out war with the Na'vi, taking their clans out one by one. Together, they are unstoppable. But separated, they would not be able to hold up against the humans' advanced technologies, as has been witnessed in the past. The compound is still undergoing construction, but it is mostly finished. Within a few months it will be ready to send out spy planes and other equipment that could be used to keep track of the Na'vi clans. In only a matter of years would the humans be able to take out their enemies and claim Pandora for themselves.
